What is social media?
According to Wikipedia, social media...
...includes web-based and mobile technologies used to turn communication into interactive dialogue. Andreas Kaplan and Michael Haenlein define social media as "a group of Internet-based applications that build on the ideological and technological foundations of Web 2.0, and that allow the creation and exchange of user-generated content." Social media is media for social interaction as a super-set beyond social communication. Enabled by ubiquitously accessible and scalable communication techniques, social media has substantially changed the way organizations, communities, and individuals communicate.
But what does this mean for you?
Well it means you can build a huge network of friends and/ or usable connections with companies. So let's break this down.
First let's use Facebook (the largest social media network of them all) as a starting point for our explanation. If you have a Facebook account, you can use that account for this purpose, but you can also create a new FB account for your promotion purposes, that's up to you. So now you have a FB account. Invite as much friends and family to be your friend on FB and soon you will have a network of connections.
You might think that your friends and family are to no benefit to your promotion purpose, but that is a wrong conclusion! You have probably heard the phrase "it's not about what you know, it's about who you know" and that is true in this business! And you do not know all the friends and family of your friends, and there family and connections right?! This is also the reason why you should help other people to get noticed as well! A friend of a friends Uncle or mother could be one of the decision makers in this business, and you might not know that!
So what's next?
You have established your network, so now it's time to expand that network. You know all the big companies in the business, and they all or at least most of them, have a FB account. So like there page or invite them to be your "friend" on FB. Most likely they will accept your invitation, because they already know the value of a social network. They know that they need you! (you could well be a customer, or use products from their company). Now with only a couple of minutes worth of searching you can expand your network with hundreds of companies and people! This is what we call level 1 connecting, so now let's go to level 2.
You can connect different social media with each other! For instance you can connect Twitter with Facebook. The result will be that whatever you tweet, automatically appears in your timeline on FB! So if you tweet a picture it is visible on FB as well as your words! You can also connect Picitz to your FB account and Twitter. That means that when you upload new pictures on Picitz they too will appear on your FB account. Hit the Tweet button on your Picitz account and your complete Picitz account will be tweeted and appear on FB! Almost every social media out there use this kind of connecting, and that makes it a whole lot easier for you to get noticed! And then there is level 3 connecting!
This is probably the best way to use all the social Media, for your promotion purposes!
Create accounts on as much social media you know, and if possible connect them with each other. Do this specifically for your promotion purposes of your account on Picitz. Build a huge network and set an example for others to follow, and invite them as well to your network. By doing this you will create a huge network of people and companies, and that increases the chance for you to land a gig or job dramatically. Don't forget that people with a big network hold a huge value for others!
So be friendly on the web, retweet tweets by major companies or important persons and VIPs, help others to reach the same goal(s) you have set for your self! You will get noticed! And a very nice side effect is that you have a great opportunity to make friends, while chasing your dream(s)!
So use our network for your benefit and get started! Here is a selection of links to different social media sites you can use.
